JOHN CROWLEY | HARVARD business school

John graduated from the United States Military Academy with a B.S. in Systems Engineering and commissioned as an Army engineer officer in May of 2014. After spending most of his career serving in the 82nd Airborne Division, John will be pursuing a joint degree (MBA/MPP) at Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School.

While deployed overseas, John was inspired to do more upon learning of severe underemployment and a civil-military divide plaguing the international veteran community. Specifically, he came to discover that many of our allies are not offered any of the generous programs, benefits, and initiatives that are sometimes taken for granted in the United States. Moreover, due to cultural norms, their leadership experience and interpersonal skills are not valued in the civilian workplace. After graduating, John plans to address this critical issue in hopes of providing an entire demographic of talented, international veterans an opportunity for meaningful work post-military service.

Beyond the military, John has led efforts at Steel Hearts Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which honors the legacies of our nation’s fallen service academy graduates and supports Gold Star families.
